You created a budget for 2011- Now what?
Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 05:57AM Back in late fall I gave you all the reasons I felt it was important for a well run company to create a zero based budget (a budget that starts with a zero in each category, and you fill in the amounts for 2011 by doing some hard work).
Soon the best time of the year is coming.. July 15. This is about the time you should be able to run your Budget VS Actual report and see just how good or bad you have been doing. I love doing it at the half way mark, because you still have time to fix things that are broken and wow yourself in areas you have succeeded past your wildest expectations.

What are you looking for? Did you spend too much in certain categories? Is it because your sales have increased by a similar percentage, or just because you haven't been watching. There is still time to fix this before year end if it's the later. Are your sales flat, on target, or better than you hoped for? Do you need to increase marketing, thank clients for referring you, or just treat your staff to lunch for a job well done?
Study your budget and all the variances that are showing. Do you see a pattern? Is it time to get serious about how you can make your numbers by year end, or is this a confirmation that you are on the right track.
